NOTES OF THE DAY
The result of the eeling competition conducted by the Fcilding Acclimatisation Society has been announced by the secretary Mr. A. H. Marshall. The first prize of £2 2s was won by Mr. W. Kingston, of Awahuri, who handed in 752 eel heads. Mr. P. R. Chandler of Waituua with a catch of 500 came second.
At last evening’s meeting of the Fcilding Borough Council it was resolved to obtain the consent of tho Local Bodies Loans Board to the raising of a loan of £I3OO for the completion of the water works improvement scheme.
During the month of April 102 cows, .10 oxen, 60 heifers, 25 bulls, 2 calves, 476 pigs, 335 sheep and 6S lambs were dealt with at tho Fcilding municipal abattoir. Fees amount to £173 1/2 as compared with £134 0/- for the corresounding month of last year, an increase of £3B 12/2. Subscribers to the Fcilding municipal library number 238, and during April 1429 books were changed. Improvements in connection with (he tree planting programme at Johnson Park are proceeding apace. Tho parking area and the concrete post and wire fence have been completed and have considerably improved the aspect along Drake street. The enclosed area is now ready for planting. Six building permits for work of a total value of £548 were issued in the borough of Fcilding during April.
