LUPIN MENACE IN THE POHANGINA
MEETING- OF SETTLERS. A meeting of settlers was held recently in the Rauraai Hall to discuss the question of lupin growing in the Bohangina river. Those present were Crs. F. IV'. Arbon (in the chair), T. Close and W. Howell and Messrs H. Whitehead, J. D. Balraer, A. Balmcr, E. Beamy, J. Beamy, H. W. Smart, 11. FitzHcrbcrt, A. Blixt, J. E. Spellman T. Spellman, G. Wagstaff, J. Roberts, B. Bockett, J. H. MacDonald, E. A. Hockley and J. D. Galvin.
The chairman stated, that since the previous meeting on March 1!>, the Oroua County engineer had communicated with him stating that he was of the opinion that lupin would not be a great menace iu a fast (lowing river like, the Pohangimi. The meeting as a whole was of the opinion that in view of the considerable increase in the growth of lupin iu the river during the past year or two it was very necessary that immediate action be taken to eradicate it, and as it appeared that the only way to ensure this being done was to declare it a noxious weed, and in view of the fact that it cannot be declared “noxious” in part of the county only, it was proposed by Mr. J. D. Balmcr, seconded by Mr. E. Loamy and duly carried, “That the Bohangina County Council be requested to take immediate steps to have lupin declared a noxious weed in the Bohangina County.”
