Mangatainoka

FAREWELL TO MR. AND MRS. F. G. THOMPSON. From Our Own Correspondent. The Maugataiuoka Hall was packed out on Tuesday night with local residents, and visitors to the district, to bid farewell to the local schoolmaster, Mr. F. G. Thompson, and Airs. Thompson. The evening was spent in dancing, Messrs. Herbert and Paku, from Pahiatua, providing the music. Songs were rendered between the dances by Air. Burke, Air. Siddells, and Aliss Chapman. The hall was tastefully decorated with greenery and streamers. Prior to the supper interval, Air. W. Brown, chairman of the School Committee, asked Air. Thompson to accept a well-filled wallet, as an appreciation of his services. In making the presentation, Mr. Brown mentioned that Air. Thompson had been with them for 12 years, and apart from his teaching, had taken a very lively interest in all the sports and social functions in the district. Airs. O. Walker asked Mrs. Thompson to accept a crystal jug and goblet from the ladies of Alangatainoka. Master John Gingers, on behalf of the school children, presented Air. Thompson with a fountain pen, and Aliss Sybil O’Brien presented Airs. Thompson with a vase and bouquet. Air. and Airs. Thompson both suitably replied, and regretted their leaving the district, but exlended to all a hearty welcome to JVtono. A beautiful supper was provided by the ladies, and dancing was continued until 3 a.m. Messers. H. Harvey and 11. Ward acted as Al.C.’s.
