Belt Series Opens at . Rifle Championship HUNT WINS DOMINION L MATCH(Per Press Association.) TBENTHAM, Last Night. Marksmen have had their “pipe” ' openers and are settling down to keen competition. Weather conditions today have been changeable after heavy rain. There was thick mist on the hills at the completion of the morning shoot Y but the afternoon events were fought out under excellent conditions, a slight $ southerly wind blowing across the ,range not interfering with elevation, fjt. The opening match which does not count for the Belt was got off and xe;?i suited in A. Powell, Akarana, securing ;|j first prize with a score of 101. His . card read 34-34-33. Barlow (Linton) who was second in the A Grade, finished with 100 as did Wilesmith (Australia). Johnson (Featherston) headed the B .grade with 100, Braithwaite (Napier) being runner-up with a similar total. The tyros’ prize was won by Elgar (Hawera) with 98. The Dominion Match also was completed, the winner being, H. E> Hunt, of the Suburbs Club, with an aggregate score of 120. The only possible made in the Dominion Match (900 yards) was P. R. Goldfinch (Old Navals). When the first range of the Marlborough Match was nearing completion there was light rain. The wind had veered to the front. Shooting continued good, although no possibles were i" recorded. This match will be concluded ■ on Saturday, as will the Auckland Match at 300 and 600 yards, ten shots each distance, and the Canterbury , Match at 600 yards, ten shots.
