In the yard of a big country hotel in the North of England is a notice: "Char-a-bancs parties, please dine upstairs.” A party of local magnates, travelling in a super saloonbodied, pneumatic-tyred fourteen-seat-er arrived to attend a ceremonious banquet. On arrival the chairman of the party ■was making his way to a room on the ground floor, when the ostler called out: "Hoy, misterl Ooop-stairs for thecl Thee’st coom in a charrybang!”
