NOTES OF THE DAY

Mr. D. P. Thurston, headmaster Manchester Street School, Fcilding, has been appointed to the Gonville ("Wanganui) School, and takes over his new duties in a month’s time. Judging by complaints made by a number of residents stock have been driven along thoroughfares within the Borough of Fcilding which arc not stock routes. Those who have suffered inconvenience through this breach of the Borough By-laws point out that the defined stock routes are ample for all occasions, and there should be absolutely no y necessity for taking stock over streets which happen to provide a short cut. On more than one occasion cattle and sheep have had the run of private lawns and gardens until hounded off by the property owner. Record entries have been received for the annual sports, promoted by the Feilding and District Public Schools. Amateur Athletic Association, to be held on Kowhai Pork an March 10. So far competitors from 22 town and district schools will take part. The work of effecting repairs to the Feilding electric power station which was damaged by fire recently is well in hand, and should be completed with in a week or two. The annual meeting of the Feilding Ladies’ Golf Club will be held in the Borough Council room on Friday evening next. - In appreciation of the services rendered the Feilding A. and P. Association, the committee resolved at its meeting on Friday night to recommend the election of Mr. John Bartholomew as an honorary life member. All visitors to Johnston’s Park enthuse over the excellent swimming facilities which have been provided by damming up the Oroua P.lvor close to the Park. Two ideal bathing pools have been created —one for children and beginners, and the other for swimmers—and both arc exceedingly well patronized. Feilding is very fortunate in being able to provide ample swimming facilities during the present dry spell. The municipal baths commands good patronage also. Fcilding’s splendid cricket ground lacks one essential —adequate seating accommodation. It has been suggested that the Borough Council might consider erecting fixed seating accommodation along the fence line which divides the recreation area from the gardens. Such a work would be greatly appreciated by all cricket enthusiasts.
