BAND CONTEST OPENS AT CHRISTCHURCH
(Per Press Association.) CHEISTCHUECH, Last NigW. The New Zealand Band Contest commenced on Saturday, twenty hands from all parts of New Zealand competing. In the afternoon the C grade quickstep, B grade quickstep and pipe hands quickstep were decided and in the evening ■ the C grade and Highland bands played test pieces. . The contest was officially opened hy Sir Heaton Ehodcs. The quickstep C grade resulted— Mosgiel Municipal (military points 168}, music 83—total 251}) first. Fourth Cadet Battalion (168, 72 240) second. Temuka Municipal (1562, 70—2281) third. - The B grade quickstep resulted— Wellington Central Mission (157}, 75 —232)) first. Jupp’s Silver Band (163), 87—250}) second. First Battalion (Wellington) (161), 82—243}) third. Dunedin City Tramways (116}, 72 IS-tf) fearth. Pipe Bands quickstep: In this contest drill points were halved in compiling totals and final results were — Wanganui; ITS, 1. Wellington, 155), 2. Christchurch Scottish Society, 153}, 3 Christchurch, Highlanders, 153, 4. Timam, 151), 5. Canterbury Caledonians, 150), 6. Southland, 141, 7. Final results in the pipo bands contest were— Wanganui (quickstep 150), test sclecrion 77, total 236)) 1. Wellington Caledonian (155), 69 — 224)) i. Timam Caledonian viol), 72—223) < 3. . Christchurch Scottish Society (153), 58—221}) 4. Christchurch Highlanders (133, 67 22.;) 5. Canterbury Highlanders (150}, 64 216}) 6. Southland (141,-60—201) 7. Tho results of the C grade bands selection was—Temuka Municipal, 121 L
Fourth Cadet Battalion Christchurch 120 points 2. Mosgiel Municipal, 113 points 3. Moagicl having scored a total of 196 for music in tho luickstcp and test selection wins the Ohas. Boggs and Go’s., Cup for C grade hands.
