BAND CONTEST OPENS AT CHRISTCHURCH

(Per Press Association.) CHEISTCHUECH, Last NigW. The New Zealand Band Contest commenced on Saturday, twenty hands from all parts of New Zealand competing. In the afternoon the C grade quickstep, B grade quickstep and pipe hands quickstep were decided and in the evening ■ the C grade and Highland bands played test pieces. . The contest was officially opened hy Sir Heaton Ehodcs. The quickstep C grade resulted— Mosgiel Municipal (military points 168}, music 83—total 251}) first.
