Manawatu Trotting 1 Club Nominations. Nominations for the Manawatu Trotting Club’s Annual Meeting close with the secretary at. 6 p.m. to-day, Saturday. Manawatu Boeing Dates The Manawatu Racing Club lias been granted by the Racing Conference Wednesday and Thursday, April 18th and 19th, as the dates for its autumn meeting instead of April- 25th and 28th. Woodvllle Acceptances, Acceptances for all first-day events (including the Maiden) at the Woodville Jockey Clum’s Autumn Meeting close on Monday next at 9 p.m,. , Dknnevirke Acceptances. Acceptances for .’all first-day events at the Dannevirke Racing Club's Meeting close on Wednesday next at 9 p.m. The First Day at Wanganui. As a result of a good gallop on Wednesday with Freehold, the public went for Thrift (Warplane-Bellina) in the Maiden at Wanganui on Thursday, the three-year-old filly being little less backed than the actual favourite and Winner, King Mart. Thrift had every chance in the straight but could not stall off a challenge from the Wanga-nui-trained Service, let alone get near the winner. She takes the £lO that is handed out to third horse, Ruanui ran an excellent race in the Stewards, making the pace to the straight.. Although finally beaten into fourth berth he was less than a length away from the actual winner, Waicullus. Ruanui should improve in the Harrison Handicap to-day in which he has the same weight, but meets Waicullus on 111 b. better terms and Tioga on 91b. better terms. Lady Limond is an absentee. Civility was always prominent in the Stewards, finishing just behind Ruanui. The aged daughter of Elysian is coming into farm again, and should win before

very long. She is not among acceptors to-day. Lady Limond had every chance to head off Waicullus but the son of Lucullus was not bothered to dispose of her challenge. Waicullus was in the race very light with 7.6. He has done lots more than Lady Limond, and as much this season, and yet the daughter of Limond had to concede him half a stone. Waicullus demonstrated, his speed at Pahiatua when ho was very unlucky not to get up to Capitulation in time, after being last in the straight Evidently Lady ■ Limond is being weighted on a jo.ekoy’s indiscretion. It is probable that Waicullus’ finishing run at Pahiatua was every bit as fast as the filly’s at Trcntham, but because the gap’ was not there the effort was not taken into account when the handicaps were posted. Kilbnrn was really much nearer Elysianor in the Hurdles than the distance that separated them. Ho was pulling up a chain from the post, while the sen of Elysian was kept at it. Both ridden out the distance may not have been more than a length. Both Nucleus and Kilburn Struck the last hurdle badly, bringing the obstacle over as the result. In the Victory Handicap Capitulation gave chase to the leaders too soon, being actually in front with Some Lad at ■the straight entrance. The Panmure lady had not had a breather the whole journey, and was unable stick to the pace set by Royal Acre and Ladykillcr along the straight. Discourse got a lucky run through from the distance, and was good enough. Discourse by her late winning shot showed that she may have .been unlucky at Hawcra. The Gasbag filly comes very fast at the end, as she demonstrated at Foxton in each of her three wins. ’She is,as good an advertisement or her sire as Blimp, and lends further evidence to the hypothesis that Gasbags want distance. For this reason she may not be so good in the seven furlongs to-day as in the mile and a distance on Thursday.

Young Robinson is to be congratulated on the.way he brought his mount along once the opening offered.

Another link in the chain —Mooregas failed badly in the five furlong Juvenile simply because the pace was set from the barrier. The two-year-old son of Gasbag got out with the leaders but dropped away when they made things hot. Ho finished full of running and justifies the conclusion that he is going to be good—when the distance is longer. Blimp, Rotowhero, Silent and Gasnapper—the other Gasbags at work-rail have made their best efforts in distances beyond a sprint. Silent ’s second to Paul Lucerne at Stratford on January 3 was over six furlongs, and this is his one placing. Gasnapper’s only placing was third to Whisogne and Kawhakina at New Plymouth —over seven furlongs. Wotowhero’s surprise Maiden win at Otaki was over six furlongs. His double on the second, day at Tauhcrenikau was over seven furlongs and one mile respectively, and his second on the first day was over seven furlongs. Blimp’s Trial Race at Marton was over six furlongs, and his subsequent ef-’ forts have all been over longer distances. Gasbag’s progeny have yet to win over five furlongs, Joy Bird tried to win the Wanganui. Cup from end to end. She just failed, and may be the hardest in the Earle Stakes to-day. Tommy Green on Eden Hall rode as pretty a race as it is possible to witness. Ho kept his mount handy on the rail the whole of the mile and three quarters. Eden Hall had an uninterrupted passage in the straight but was not good enough for Mandanc, although the Panmure marc was hard put to it to stall off the Aucklander’s challenge. Novar tailed the field as usual till three furlongs from home, moving fast round the bend. But he finished seven lengths behind Yoma, although in fifth berth. . > Tea Miss played up badly at the barrier in the Juvenile and had probably taken too much out of herself before the tapes were released. Flying Hero got away badly but improved all through. The imported colt will be winning races soon. Ho was a winner the second day at Tauherenikau. Freehold was freely anticipated, having done a very fast bit of track work on Wednesday, completing the five furlongs in 48 3-5. The chestnut never loft much doubt as-to the issue.

Egeris, a grey Elly by Sarchedoa (imp)-Wallace Maid- was very badly left, but once going made up. ground very quickly. The Eaider ran very conspicuously throughout the Petre Hack Handicap being with White Kinglet at the straight entrance, but falling back to fourth berth in the run home. He ia in at a pound lighter to-day, and should improve. Limosa and Kawhakina were content to watch the rest running on ahead of them, tho whole journey. Polydeetes finished very well and nothing had a chance with the three-year-old. Trainer Waddell has the King Mark gelding very well at present. High Finance went out to win the Flying from end to end, hut after leading to the straight fell back very badly Paganelli came on just when it was expected he might fail, and finished so strongly as to greatly enhance his prospects in the Jackson Stakes to-day. Kiosk ran well but gave up when he found his loaders going so fast down tho straight. Limited made a long sustained run from well hack over the last two furlongs, and finished strongly into third place. The Absurd four-year-old will be tho hardest in the Farewell to-day.
