STOLE SILK STOCKINGS WHILE DRUNK

At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning, before Messrs C. H. Whitehead and A. Buchanan, J.’sP., a first offending inebriate, aged 30 years, was charged with the theft of six pairs of stockings valued at £1 2/6, the property of Collinson and Cunninghainc, Ltd. Charges of drunkenness and of damaging a cell utensil were also preferred. Senior Sergeant O’Grady in outlining the case for the police stated that the offences had occurred as the outcome of a drunken spree. WhcA arrested the six pairs of stockings were found in accused's possssion. These accused stated he had bought. Horace Cunningbamc, of the firm of Collinson and Cunninghamc, stated in evidence that the accused came into the shop on Thursday afternoon. He was under the influence of liquor and, after making himself a nuisance to the staff had to be ’orcibly removed. Accused had not purchased the stockings, which witness identified as part of his stock. The accused pleaded guilty to the charge of drunkenness but stated he had no rcollction of how the hosiery came into his posession or of damaging the cell furniture. On the charge of theft accused was fined £3 or 14 days' imprisonment, Ho was fined a further £1 or seven days’ imprisonment for damaging Government property, being ordered to make good the loss.
