Queensland, has commenced. Victoria has two wickets down for 400 (Woodful 31, Pohsford not out 234, Hendry 129). The weather was fine and hot. Queensland won the tbss and unaccountably sent Victoria in on a perfect. wicket. Scoring up to luncheon was slow. ' against bowling which was not dangerous. But after the adjournment the cricket livened up and Ponsford in his partnership with Hendry carried the score along at a fast rate. Ponsford was batting at the top of his form, hitting solidly at everything ( sent down. Hendry played careful,, sound cricket, and took no risks. Ponsford has now made a century each of the last .seven Sheffield matches in which h e has played. Ff.S.W. 400 for Seven Against South Australia ADELAIDE, Dee, IG. The Sheffield Shield match, Nei* South Wales v. South Australia, has commenced (Phillips 112, Andrews 58 Kippax temporarily retired, 81, Scancs 44, Bradman not, out 65). The weather was fine and the wicket fast and good. Phillips and Andrews played sparkling innings, the latter’s footwork being magnificent, while Phillip’s made many fine shots. Phillips, however facing Grimmett, ■ whose bowling was a model of consistency and accuracy, showed indecision, but later played with more confidence and played a splendid fighting innings. The fielding throughout was very keen but the bowling left much to be desired. Klppax gave glimpses of perfect timing and artistic batting, but affected by the sun he hadto retire for treatment. Scanes and Bradman both played soundly and confidently.
