DOCTOR SACRIFICES LIFE TO SCIENCE
Dies Experimenting v With New Anaesthetic HAD MASK OVER MOUTH WHEN FOUND [British Official Wireless;] RUGI3T, Sept. 14. An inquest was held at Manchester to-day into the death of Mr. Sidney Rawson Wilson, the eminent anaesthetist, who was found dead In hla study by Ills wife. Deceased had a mask round his mouth, and It was evident that he had been experimenting with anaesthetics. Witnesses deposed that deceased was accustomed to administer anaesthetics to himself alone in his study, and to make notes as far as possible of his, sensations. He knew tho serious risk, that was involved, but he ■ trusted to his knowledge of the subject. His experiments were principally in the direction of discovering a mixture of nitrous oxide gas and oxygen which would support consciousness so that persons might be conscious to everything else except the sense of pain. It is believed he was thc victim of science, experimenting on himself with a new anaesthetic. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
