SIX-DAY WEEK FOR NURSES AT HOSPITALS
OTHER RESOLUTIONS AT W.C.T.U. CONFERENCE

ASHBURTON, ■ Last Night, Tile Canterbury Provincial conference of the W.C.T.U. passed resolutions as follow: , (1) “That special domestic Courts should be set up for the hearing of cases of maintenance, separation, and affiliation; (2) "That in the interest of the health and efficiency of hospital nurses. Hospital Boards should be urged to establish a six-day week instead of the seven-day week of eight hours daily at pro- \ cent in force for nurses In some of the hospitals: (3) “That the Government be again urged to give effect to the recommendations of the committee of inquiry into mental defectives; (4) “That where men are committed to gaol for non-compli-ance with maintenance orders, provision should be mad e for , their immediate employment upon remunerative work—their earnings to be applied to the maintenance of their dependants: (5) “That the publication of details of such cases as those in which mothers in a state of mental unbalance destroy or attempt to destroy their children should be prohibited; (6) “That stricter censorship should be exercised over motion pictures shown to young people.”
