an old established brand. AUCKLAND, Sept. 14. The views o£ the- Argentine Dairy Association upon protests which have been made against the use of the trade name “Zelandia,’! which it has been suggested confuses South American with New Zealand dairy produce, have been conveyed to 'Mr. F. 3. Battley, Argentine Vice-Consul at Auckland, by the association named. It is pointed out that the name, a Dutch one, was registered many years ago, and for a long period “Zelandia" has been the brand under which Messrs. S. A. Elowson and Wester, Ltd., have been selling dairy produce. The chairman of that country is vice-chairman of the Argentine Dairy Association. The company's manager, Mr. Battley Is informed, would have no objection to abandoning the trade mark if that Is desired by interests who consider it conflicts with Now Zealand selling brands. “It is unthinkable,” says the Argentine body, “that New Zealand exporters could believe that such an old-established and highly reputable firm at Messrs. Elowson and Wester would resort to the use of a copy trade name to try and gain an advantage on the market. On the contrary. like most Argentine firms, that in .question was trying to better its position on the London market by the only lawful methods, bettering the quality of its export, and organising sales. It had suffered too much by past errors to now resort to fraudulent means to conquer the market.” The letter, dated Buenos Aires, Bth July, is, Mr. Battley stated last night "an answer to statements concerning the word ‘Zelandia’ which were published in the Press of New Zealand. Copies of appearing on the matter were forwarded to the Argentine Dairy Association, and inspired the explanation forwarded to the Vice-Consul.”
