MEETING OP COMMITTEES’ ASSOCIATION. VARIOUS MATTERS DISCUSSED Mr W. B. Cameron presided over a largely attended meeting o£ the Palmerston North School Committees’ Association last evening in Freeman's rooms. The secretary of the Education Board advised that the Board could not see its way to recommend the Education Department approving of the school year commencing in the second week in February.—Received. In regard to the employment of married women teachers, the Board members thought they should have discretionary powers In (he matter. — Received. The secretary of the Board also advised that no action was being taken at present in connection with Bible instruction in schools, in view of the fact that the matter was being dealt with by Parliament. —It was decided to advise Mr J. A. Nash and Mr J. Linklater. M.’sP., of the desire of the Association in the matter. A considerable amount of correspondence was received in connection with the newly-formed North Island School Committees’ Federation, and it was decided to affiliate.

Subscription to the Palmerston North Association was fixed at one guinea for town schools and 10/G for country schools. It was also decided to circularise the country schools and point out the advantages to bo gained in joining up with the Association. The College Street committee brought forward the suggestion that headmasters should be given discretionary powers in granting a halfholiday on exceedingly wet days. "This is to save the children sitting in wet clothes,” said Mr W. S. Oliver in presenting the remit. The mooting thought that the different committees should have an opportunity of considering the matter before a vote was taken and this was agreed to. The subject therefore, will be decided at th 0 next meeting of the Association, which was fixed for December 14.
