ERECTING VETERANS’ HOMES
ULTIMATE USE FOR CANTEEN FUNDS., (Per Press Association), ,* • WELLINGTON, Last Night. A lengthy discussion took place at the annual meeting of the Dominion Council of tho Returned Soldiers’ Association in regard to what should bo done with the canteen .fund now totalling £190,000 .. inclusive of last year's interest. A remit of the sub-committee on tho suggestion of Mr. Aldred, representative of tho Council on the Trust Beard, was taken in two parts. The first part was carried arid”-follows that of the Dominion Conference and confirms the attitude taken up by the R.S.A. In the past that the corpus of the canteen funds bo conserved. This , decision was unanimous. u : i’ The second part was keenly dbr bated and eventually carried and it further recommends that the fund be eventually used for / the purpose of erecting Veterans’ Homes'as soon as tho necessity arises. . Tho conference Resolved that in view of the unemployment existing among returned soldiers, this winter, it recommends the Board to apply a portion - of tho income to relief purposes.
