McKELVEE SHIELD. The presentation of the McKelvie Shield took place at the District High School yesterday morning. Mr. Mason (headmaster) vbiced hs appreciation of the good work done by . Mrs. Stanley and Mr. Procter in preparing the children for the competition. The children themselves would receive merit cards in due course and in addition the school would receive prizemoney which would go towards the sport’s fund. Mr. Hornblow, in presenting the shield to Mrs. Stanley on behalf of the girls said that he was very proud that the Foxton School had’ won the McKelvie Shield at the Primary Championship Sport?' Meeting of the Manawatu District at Sanson on Saturday. He warmly congratulated the winners and their trainers on the success in their efforts. He hoped that they would have the same success at Levin on Saturday next. At the same time ho urged them to work at their studies as hard as they train for their athletics, "By their efforts on Saturday the team brought honour to the school. They havo made a reputation for atheltics, •it was up to them to maintain it in scholarships, for scholarships are .the things that count in life. ,;; ; : r | Cheers were given for the winners,' their assistants, as well as those who tried hard but were unsuccessful. As a mark of appreciation of the fine showing made by the girls, a - donation of ten shillings was made towards a basketball : by the Misses ROSS. ‘ ; In Monday’s “Times" Foxton was credited with a score of 28. gained in connection with the McKelvie Shield. This should have read 48 points.
