FROZEN v. CHILLED
WHERE THE ARGENTINE IS GAINING. Frozen beef, as contrasted with, the chilled article, seems to languish more and more, says a Home paper. So great has the discouragement of the former business proved that in the past six months the total import into this country has been only 92,000 tons, as compared with nearly half as much again in the same period three years ago. Of this decline Argentine has experienced about a half, against 64,000 tons three years' earlier. The River Plate seems to stake everything on the chilled trade these days. Curiously enough, the drop in New Zealand frozen-beef, shipments has exceeded the decline from Australia, although the misfortunes of the latter country may have been more noifeily voiced. The New Zealand quota fell 21,000 tons in the period named,- and the Australian from 31,000 tons to 26,000 tons.
