It will be remembered, gained fame a few years ago for his great ride through the snow from York to London and back and beat the famous Dick Turpin’s time over the journey, is essaying an almost similar feat in conjunction with the B a l l ? cr^ o . l J North. Jubilee celebrations. Mr. Bell has chosen an Achilles mare Gratitude for his ride from Auckland to Palmerston. North and ho hopes to finish on Wednesday, March 2nd at the Showgrounds where he will aeliver a letter from the Mayor of Auckland to the Mayor of Palmerston N °A h condition of the ride is that he must start from Auckland without any money in his pocket and ho must not purchase food or bed either for himself or horse on the journey and must not be more than a week on the road. The distance by road is nearly 400 miles and Mr. Bell weighs 111 stone, so the little mare will , require a stout heart to accomplish the feat.
