Desmond Palmer failed to appear in answer to a charge of failing to attend drill. ‘‘This man has given us considerable trouble,” stated Sergt.-Major Harvey in evidence. Palmer was fined £2 and costs 9s.
The charge against Arthur N. Shapleski w r as that he failed to return bis uniform lo the Defence Department. "Ho was convicted and prdered to pay the value of the clothing £3 6s 3d. Motor By-Laws.
A' fine of £1 and costs was imposed upon Clif Walker, found guilty ot driving a car without a license.
Arthur Norman Palmer, of Awahou. appeared voluntarily on a charge of driving a car at an excessive speed in the outer ’ area of the borough.—Fined £1 and costs 2s. Chas. James Tarrant was charged (1) with driving an unregistered motor-car: (2) with failing to produce a driver’s license when asked to do so; and (3) with giving a false name and address. Accused failed to appear in an-, swer to the charges. The fines imposed wore £2* and costs for giving a false name a.nd address, and £1 and costs 7s fbr driving an unregistered car. For failing to produce his license Tarrant was convicted and discharged. Disturbing a Dance. Raymond C. Waslcy pleaded guilty to charges of being drunk and also using obscene language during a dance at the West End School. Mr A. M. Ongley pleaded for accused, who was only 19 years ot age. Mr Ongley stated that accused’s condition was largely the result of a football dinner. Since the offence he had apologised-to those whom he. had personally offended. “I think those people who supplied accused with drink at the football dinner arc perhaps more to to blame than Waslcy,” remarked Sen-ior-Scrgt. O’Grady. His Worship inflicted a fine of 40s and costs 9s on the indecent lan< guage charge, while he convicted and discharged accused on the other. Fourteen days were allowed in whicV. to pay the fine. "Will your Worship make an order for the suppression of accused’s name?” asked Mr Ongley. “I don’t think there is any necessity if the case is correctly reported,” replied Mr Stout.
