(By “A.W.”) The championship of the Palmoi stop North Chess Chib for 1026 wan decided on Monday evening last, when. by defeating L. Thorburn in the last round, A. G. Richards completed ins line score of S wins ami 2 draws. The draws wore obtained by two ex-champions—K. Thorburn md A. H. M. Wright. Mr Richards' Ulccess is well-deserved, ns he has clayed splendid chess all through •:hc tommy. At one stage in his game against Wright it looked as though he must lose, as he was the exchange and 2 pawns down, only very skilful piay in a rook and knight duel enabled him to stave off defeat. Mr Wright is sure of second pla.ee with a score of <! wins, 2 draws, 1 iO“S and 1 to play, but the destination of tile third prize is still uncertain,- as 9 games arc as yet tinplayed. The British Championship, As was expected, this year’s tournament of the British Chess Fedoralion. held at Edinburgh was won b\ F. P. Yates, who thus repeated his previous success at: Cheltenham in 1913, Chester in 1914, and Malvern in 1921. At Edinburgh he lost only 1 game do M. K. Goldstein) and drew another (with H.
