To make white silk dresses look like new use about two tablespoonfuls of methylated spirits in the last rinsing water. Then roll in a clean towel and iron damp.
When cooking fish, beat a tablespoonful of salad oil with each egg when preparing egg and breadcrumbs for tish or cutlet. It is economical, holds the crumbs well, and has no perceptible flavour.
When grating nutmeg the tips of the lingers often get a nasty scratch, especially if the nutmeg is worn down. To avoid this hold it with an old pair of sugar tongs when grating.
When children or even adults are sick in bed their hair becomes tangled, especially if It is curly. A little olive oil rubbed on and left for an hour will, work wonders. Then it will be no trouble to comb.
Babies’ cotton frocks which haw had a lot of washing and look u little dingy and yellow in colour can bo restored lo their original dazzling whiteness by giving them a boil in water to which has been added a teaspoonful cf cream of tartar.
When elastic slips, as it sometimes does from the bodkin when running through a hem, you have to start all over again. To prevent this, inseit a crochet hook so that tho hook catches in the clastic, and you can easily pull it through without starling airtsh.
To dye white stockings the fashionable flesh colour with tea, make the tea tho desired strength and pul in your stockings; just squeeze them a little and fill them with soft paper and hang out to dry. Lou will find that there will not beany streaks when you remove the paper after they arc dry.
It there is any doubt ot a woolly garment stretching, or going out ol shape in tho washing, an excellent plan is to tack the garment into shape on a clean towel after washing and hang out to dry. Always choose a dry windy day for washing woollies, and hang out of tho sun, to avoid tho garment turning yellow. _
