The figureis published in the annual report of tho Tourist Department in connection with the Waitomo Caves and hostel go to prove that this resort is gaining popularity by leaps and bounds. La-st year the total number of visitors was 10,543 ,at 3 compared with S,IG3 for the previous year, being an increase of 2,355. a record in tho history of the resort. Tho total receipts were £S6SC, being £1554 more than the previous year. Tho net profit on the year’s working was £4653, as against £2355 for the year ending March 31, 1925. The excavations for the additions to the hostel are now completed, but so far tenders have not boon called for the work (says tho "King Country Chronicle.”) The largo building at the eastern side of tho hostel grounds is to be renovated to provide additional accommodation to moot the demand during ■the holiday season.
