WILD FLOWERS
PROTECTION IN AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY, Oct. 21. That a remarkable display in Sydney of the State’s native flora should synchronise with (ho Introduction in Parliament of a Government measure to protect the, wild flowers seems peculiarly fitting. Tile Pull has the whole-hearted support nf the community generally. It is ns a result or repeated protests by Nature lovers against tbo ruthless destruction of wild (lowers and plants, especially by week-end parties, that tire Government has determined to take active stops to try to preserve the natural 1 beauty of the, bush. The beautiful ! waratah, the. equally distinctive Han't nel flower, and the lovely rose-pink bloom known as the native rose, are, it is felt, above ail other species, in ■ immediate need of protection from vandals. The fact Hint many of the I native flowers exhibited at the Sydney Show were grown in private gardens serves to illustrate how these gems improved with a. little care. The Naturalists’ Society is now encourag- ■ ing tiro careful study of the propagation and growth o' (ini State's many i quaint and beautiful species of native II flora, some of which.' notably the orchid blossoms, would probably bring fancy prices in other lands.
