THE SHARE MARKET

WELLINGTON, Monday. Business during the week in Government stocks and bonds was very slow. The ii per cents, changed hands at £96 5s and £96 7s 6d, and the 5 per cents, at £99 and £9S 15s. At the week-end there was a good demand for all denominations of stocks and bonds. N.Z. Breweries, 10 per cent, bonds, sold at 245. and Auckland Electric Power Board 6 per cents, at £97 10s. Bank shares were fairly active, and business was well spread. Bank of Australasia shares sold at £.14 Is 6d, with buyers at the week-end at £l4 Is. Transfers wore registered of Bank of New Zealand shares at 60s and there wore several sales of Bank of Now Zealand rights at 6s 2d and 6s 3d. Union Bank shares changed hands at £ls 3s and £ls 4s, with buyers at the week-end at £ls 3s. There were sales recorded of Bank of New South Wales shares at £45, English, Scottish and Australian Bank at £6 ss. Western Australian Bank at 57s and 57s 3d. Commercial Bank of Sydney at £26 ss, and National Bank of Australasia. £5 paid, at £9 5.s and £9 6s. A moderate business was done in the shares offinancial companies, with sales of Dalgety and Co. at £l6 10s, Goldsbrough, Mart and Co. at 50s 7d and 51s, and N.Z. Guarantee Corporation ordinary at 10s 5d and ios 4d.

On Saturday there were buyers of ■Equitable Building at £0 2s 6d, Jlctropolitan Building at £l3, and Wellington nlvostment at 10s ss. Gas shares wore very dull, and the only transaction recorded during the week was a sale of Auckland Gas shares at 23s 10(1. Christchurch Gas shares were in demand at 23s Gd. There were a few transactions in insurance shares. National Insurance changed hands at 795, New Zealand Insurance at 40s, and South British Insurance at 60s. In meat shares several parcels of N.Z. Kofrigorating shares, 10s paid, sold at 6s 4d, 6s 5d and 6s 7d. There was an active demand during the week for P. and O. Deferred Stock, and sales were made at £249, £250 and £251. Huddart-Parkcr ordinary shares wore wanted at 47s 3d and Union Steam preference at 20s. Saturday’s buying and soiling quotations wore as under:—
