QUEEN CARNIVAL
Y.M.C.A. EFFORT. The Y.M.C.A. has just commenced a big Queen Carnival, in which all of its members arc taking an enthusiastic part. Three Queens have been nominated, representing the men's, ladies’ and boys’ groups of the Association, and the winning Queen will bo crowned “Queen of the Red Triangle” at a big carnival to be hold on December 2 and 3. This effort will replace the annual Red Triangle Day appeal for funds, and the board of directors of the Association feel that a greater response will be forthcoming, as well as the whole Y.M.C.A. membership enlisted in this happy effort. It is a well-known fact that this fine community institution can never pay its own way through its membership income, so that each year it mffst depend on the generosity of the wider public to supplement this. There is no need lo speak here of the work accomplished this year by the Y.M.C.A., for the youth of the community—it has been a record year of growth in the gymnasium, in the work among boys, and in the whole social and spiritual life of the Association. It speaks for itself that the great number of young people who might benefit by their contact with the Y'.M.C.A. should lie appreciative enough to work in this Queen Carnival to help finance the institution. The three Queens who were elected by popular vote, arc: Men’s Queen, Miss A. Ridley; Ladies’ Queen, Mrs. C. Woods: Boys’ Queen, Miss Hilda Cunninghamc. Already the tickets, coloured white, blue and red respectively, are being widely distributed by members among their friends, each being sold for threepence. Every threepence gathered in towards the Queen counts one vote. The competition will culminate in the big twonight carnival on December 2 and 13, and the proceeds from the various I stalls and sideshows will count, as I votes for the Queens. It is hoped by | Hits effort lo raise quite a substantial I sum towards wiping off the bank i overdraft of (he Association. Since there will be no further appeal to (the general public undertaken during j tilts summer the public are asked to I “vole” generously for the Queen they 1 fancy.
