Three New Members Capture Seats

MR ROBERT TANNER HEADS THE POLL There has been a change in the per. S onal of the Manawatu hand Di.iln* age Board as a result of the poll taken yesterday for seven trustees. All the sitting members were in the field, and three nominees of the ManawatuOroua Ratepayers’ Association also contested the election, with the result that three of the old members wore defeated, whilst one of the Association members headed the poll. The new Board will bo: Messrs. Tanner, Small, D. Collis, Collins, Wood, Eliott and Guy. The '■ defeated candidates were Messrs. Collis, Nielsen, and Burrell. There was an unusual interest displayed in the poll ,and the number of votes recorded was higher than usual. The returning officer (Mr. F. W. Connell) had a busy time throughout the day, particularly between noon and 3 p.m.

A somewhat different position was forthcoming in connection with the election of trustees for the Oroua Drainage Board, for while seven trustees were sought, only live residents offered their services, they being ■Messrs. J. H. W. Clausen, G. H. Davison, T. H. Dixon, J. Gloyn and C. Watkins. These five gentlemen were fduly declared elected and further nominations called for, the closing hours for the receipt of same—noon yesterday—finding Messrs. A. G. Gust, J, Hansen and L. Ponpard candidates for the two remaining vacancies. An eleoeion will be held on Friday, November 12.
