THE NEW VANE" STUDEBAKER MR CLEANER OUST* PIP& Ain a VACUUM TANK THE NEW STUDEBAKER PETROL FILTER ■STRAINER GIASS BOWL mTHE NEW STUDEBAKER OIL FILTER. THE NSW STUDEBAKER AIR CLEANER. The object of the new air cleaner is to separate auif from the air and deliver clean pore air through tin carburetter to the cylinders. By having clean, p ire air going through the carburetter, and engine, tb.3 abrasive action caused by road dust on the c /linder walls and pistons is eliminated. The suction o the carburetter on the main delivery pipe causes th? air to be drawn into the separating box through a specially shaped vane, designed so that the air is whirled round by centrifugal force. The clean air is delivered to the carburetter by means of the main dilivery pipe which projects into the centre of the separating chamber, the foreign matter being forced by the whirling motion to the outer edge of the flow, and then dropping into the box at the bottom of the separating chamber. THE NEW STUDEBAKER PETROL FILTER. The object of the new petrol filter is to thoroughly safeguard the jets of the carburetter from possible blockage by grit, water, etc. The petrol filter is composed of the main body casting with a “shut off ” tap, glass vision bowl, and a fine mesh gauze strainer. Petrol from the vacuum tank is delivered to the g'ass bowl through a small ho'e in the main body casting and thence through the gauze strainer to the carburetter. Ail foreign matter" is 'eft in the glass bowl which can be removed and cleaned'out * periodically THE NEW STUDEBAKER OIL FILTER. The object of the ...oil filter is to thoroughly cleanse the lubricating oil of the engine from particles of carbon deposit and metal which make their appearance during the running of the engine, and to ensure that all lubricating oil delivered to the bearings is thoroughly clean. The oil filter consists of a series of straining pads enclosed in a thin steel box,on the outside of which is a sight feed gauge glass. Oil is drawn by the pump from the bottom of the crank chamber through the gauze stranler in the usual way. It is then delivered to the oil filter and forced through the straining pads, thence out through the sight feed and back to the crank chamber in a perfectly clean condition. By means of the sight feed gauge glass the driver can at all times see that the crank case oil is passing through the oil filter. The illustration shows in its upper half, the original clean condition of the filtering elements. The lower hall shows how the dirt, carbon, metal, etc., removed from the lubricating oil as the engine runs, are deposited on the filtering elements and prevented from doing damage to the engine THE NEW STUDEBAKER TILT RAY HEADLAMP The new Studebaker Headlamp makes the oldfashioned and dangerous dimming obsolete. The new bulbs have dual 21-candle pdwer filaments about one-eighth of an inch apart and equidistant from the bulb axis. The reflector has four distinct sections each designed to contribute its share to an optically correct distribution of the light. The lens is divided into 3 sections to spread the reflected light. Two distinct and separate beams of light are used; the upper beam (as illustrated), which is the driving beam, is produced by the lower filament. By switching to the upper filament a depressed beam of full intensity is obtained, and the light tilted downwards on to the road, this may be used s?hen ap■nwjaching other vehicles or when driving in town.
