UNUSUAL PROSECUTION S. Two unfamiliar broaches of the Land Agents Act, 1921-22 were brought to the notice of Mi'. J. H. Sainton. S.M.. at the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court yesterday. James Jabez Sharman, for whom Mr. Peterson appeared, was charged that, being a. licensed land agent, ho did fail to display a notice to this effect outside, his registered office. It was staled that defendant had vacated his old premises in Rangitikoi street and as he was unable to secure other suitable offices, ho eventually established his business at his place of residence, but. between March and September, although he completed several deals that had been placed ii\ his hands, lie did not display a sign until later, Senior-Detective Quirke said it was only a technical offence and defendant was convicted and ordered to pay 7s costs. William Ritchie, through Mr. Merton, pleaded guilty to a charge of holding himself out as a land agent, without being the possessor of a license. It was slated by counsel that on March 31 he allowed his license, which he had held for a number of years, to lapse, but he still displayed a sign to the effect that he was a dealer in Mother Earth. His Worship remarked that while the first defendant had acted against his own interests, the case of Ritchie was of a different, category, and he imposed a fine of £2 and 7s costs.
