A GIRL AND COCAINE

AN amazing story. An attractive-looking young woman was found, delirious, lying on the grass near Kushcuttcr’s Bay Oval, Sydney, suffering severely from the effects of cocaine. Called from duty at King’s Cross by a man on a motor-cycle, who said he had seen a drunken girl, Constable Clancy hurried to Rushcutter’s Bay Parp, and found the victim, who could not say anything coherent beyond that she was tired. But subsequently, after treatment at Sydney hospital, she told her amazing story, interrupted by convulsive sobs. The young woman is only 23 years of age, and, although she gave her name, she would not say where she lived. She declared that she recently arrived from Queensland, and was staying at Bondi Junction. She met a man, whose name she did not reveal, and they both departed in a taxi-cab. Eventually the pair arrived at a house in a neighbourhood the young woman did not recognise. There wore three other men in this house, and they had cocaine in small packets the young woman asserted. They invited her to take some of the cocaine, adding, “go on, be a sport.” She foolishly did so, and afterwards, she said, she was induced to drink whisky. Altogether, between them, they took five small packets of cocaine, the young woman continued. Then the five of them left in a second taxi-cab, ultimately arriving at a house at Glebe Point. The last the young woman could recall was paying £2 for the cocaine and whisky, and also paying for the taxi-cab. Tile next she remembered was being disturbed by Constable Clancy in Kushcutter’s Bay Park, She did not have the faintest recollection or how she got there. The sobbing young woman was taken to Sydney Hospital in a Central Ambulance. The mysterious affair was then reported to police headquarters. After an hour or so, the young woman was well enough to leave the hospital with Constable Clancy.
