VABMEKSTOX STATISTICS. Building permits issued by the engineer's department of the Borough Council for October were for £31,004, ihe major portion of which sum, £18,913, is to be expended in alterations and additions to existing premises, £13,300 is the estimated cost of the new wins of the Chief Post Office. Thirteen now dwelling houses were authorised, the prices ranging from £7OO to £IOOO, while £GSO is to Pe used in converting a large private house in Queen street into flats. At the present rate of progress this year's building should exceed £200,000 in value. Three bankruptcy petitions were filed last month, as against live ror the corresponding period twelve months ago
During October, the registrar was notified of 52 births and 18 deaths. There were 19 marriages, six or which were performed by the registrar himself. A year ago the respective totals wore 85. 21 and 14 (:•!>.
