OPALS

Opals, the most beautiful of all jewels to some people, have the bad reputation of being unlucky. Ihoso born in October, however, can swear to the opal with safety, and oven confidence, for— October's child is born for woo, And life’s vicissitudes must know, But lav an opal on her breast, And hope will lull those words to rest, Some say the opal is regarded as unlucky because it has a habit of shrinking and falling from its sotting! Others maintain that the opal is not the unlucky gem it is supposed to be, except when it is given or received by one who is fickle or falsa in love. To the true lover the opal is a star gleaming, scintillate and shining, true as the polo star itself. To the tickle donor of_ the gem, or the foresworn it indicates separation, and the fire of the stone pales and wanes upon the finger of such an individual. Certainly the opal is Influenced by its wearer or the atmosphere, for it changes from blue to fiery rod. whether owing to the health m emotion of its wearer, or the state or the weather, no one knows.
