JEWS AND THE WAR
MR. LLOYD GEORGE’S TRIBUTE. Mr. David Lloyd George, addressing the delegates attending tire Summer School of tho Intcr-Jewisli University Federation, at Bangor in August, referred to the discovery by Dr. Wcizmann during the war of an ingredient which was essential in the production of high explosives. "That ingredient was absolutely vital to tho production of explosives,” said Mr. Lloyd George. “Wo did not know where to turn. It was through the scientific knowledge of Dr. Weizrnaiin that we were able to overcome that difficulty, and ho saved us. When I turned to him and asked him what honour I could recommend him for, he replied, T want no honour, but 1 should like you to do something for my people.’ Whatever anybody may think about Zionism, there was something in that act which everybody must admire. “I have never met anybody who displayed greater patriotism toward the country in which they happened to live than tho Jewish people. During the, war there was no class of tlio community that responded more readily in this country (o tho call of tho Hag than tho Jewish people. That was equally true of Jews in every country. They were true to tho country whore they dwelt and to tire flag that gave them protection. That is why it is a great mistake to imagine that, because a race is international, it cannot also be national.’’
