S.P.C.A.

The usual meeting of the executive df the S.P.C.A. was held last evening, Mr. G. H. Espiner presiding in the absence of Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt, who is indisposed. The secretary reported that arrangements were well in train in anticipation of the arrival of the organiser , to-morrow. Lists had been compiled i to facilitate his work, and a site ar- i ranged for at the forthcoming Show. A letter was received from Mr. J. A. Forbes, of Oamaru, in which he asked for the Society’s opinion as to the continuation of the annual “Animal Welfare Week." < The opinion of the meeting was that the campaign should be con- ] tinned, and it was resolved to leave . the matter of details in the hands of ] the president and secretary. The inspector’s report was read and ] received. During the period covered ; by the report, several domestic animals that were suffering had been t destroyed. Complaints of seeming neg- -j lect of horses with sores, wore in- , vestigated, and the owners warned to £ have them properly treated, and on

no account to work them until perfectly well. The inspector visited Rangiwahia it response to a letter, and made searching enquiries in reference to alleged cruelty to a dog, but found that there were no grounds for the complaint. The organiser for the Wellington Society will be in Palmerston North for about three weeks, in the interests of this branch, when it is hoped to stimulate the interest in the Society’s work.
