JAZZLAND REVUE

BRIGHT PERFORMANCE,

The Perris Jazzland Revue company opened its focal season at the Opera House last evening-, with distinction, before a large and enthusiastic audience.

This combination of talented artists has brought to Palmerston North something unique in the way of entertainment—a bright box of musical confections in which there were many surprises and many gems. As the company title suggests, the music and dances of modern America occupied a large ■portion of the programme. The Charleston and other jazzes were interwoven with catchy airs and patter and picked out here and there with sweet melodies that captivated the audience. The whole entertainment was clean and clever, the like of which has not been witnessed for some considerable time. The company is assured of another big reception this evening, when the final performance will be staged.

There was no doubt that last eveningV, chief honours went to Dudley Dickenson, probably tho most ambitious eccentric dancer that lias visited these parts. He was obliged to respond to repeated encores, and even after numerous recalls, further exhibitions of his dancing would have been welcome. The company possesses two exceedingly clover comedians in Robert Murray and Douis Godfrey Unfortunately the audience last evening was denied musical contributions from the later owing to a cold from which he was suffering. The patter of these two performers. however, provided unending mirth and hilarity from the rise to the fall of the curtain. The surprise of tho evening was Clifford Duncan, who carried off his impersonations of a lady member of the party, till the last act. When he eventually revealed himself the audience gasped, and then the house shook with applause. Tho light songs contributed by 'Miss Thompson and Harry Montgomery added greatly to the worth of the entertainment. Recalls expressed the gathering’s appreciation o fthoir efforts. The Ferris family, talented alike in song and dancing, played an important part throughout the proceedings. It would be impossible to mention all the sparkling episodes that combined to form an unique and attractive entertainment that should not be overlooked this evening.
