SEWERING THE BOROUGH. ALTERNATIVE PROPOSALS ILLEGAL. A recommendation from the works and town planning committee on talcing a poll for serving the nn,sewered streets in the Corough was presented by the works committee last night. It was in the form of alternative proposals; the first for a loan of £32,000 to sewer the whole of the unsewored part of the Borough; the second, a loan for £15,000 to sower Boundary road and streets in the vicinity or Peatherston Street West.
The dcputy-Mayor (Cr_ A. ,T. Graham) asked that the clause he deleted, as it was not in the power of (he Council to put an alternative proposal before the ratepayers. The Borough solicitor had advised that the Act did not admit of it and such a poll would bo Invalid. Ho intended the submit another motion later m the evening. This course was agreed to by the Conned!. A report of the discussion appears elsewhere.
