Crs. J. A. McLoavcy and M. H. Oram wore elected the representatives of the Palmerston North Borough Council at a conference of the Agricultural College League on Tuesday next.
Dr. J. Right, professor of history and dean of the faculty of commerce at Canterbury College, has resigned in order to take up a. position for a year on 11m professorial staff of Leeds University. Sir James Alien, late High Commissioner for New Zealand, arrived in Palmerston North by Hie “Limited" last evening. He will,, visit Boys’ Flock House to-day, and the girls’ institution to-morrow.
One of the Dominion’s pioneers passed away at Levin on Monday in the person of Mr. Joseph Chapman Letter, aged SS years. The late Mr. Hotter was born in Surrey, England, and came out to Now Zealand with his parents in tiro ship “Lord William Bcntinck,” when three years of ago. Deceased settled in Levin about forty years ago. Deceased leaves a widow two sons. Messrs. Fred (Matangi) and Joe (Fox(on), and three daughters, Mrs. J. W. Proctor (Levin), Mrs. .1. Roach (Shannon), Mrs. Gill (Levin), and 37 gland-children and It great - grand-children. Dir. F. C. Better (Palmerston North.) and Mrs. A. C. Stevenson (Wellington) are brother and sister.
