Addressing the Country Press Association. Conference, Mr. Fisk, director of Amalgamated Wireless, said that the daily newspapers had nothing to fear from wireless as a rival, but he indicated that they could use wireless as a valuable adjunct to their business by the establishment of a central station sending out largo volumes of nows at high speed. Later they would probably bo able to establish a wireless picture scrvico as well. SPECIAL LICENSES TO PAPERS. (Received Thursday, 7 p.m.) The Country Press Association at its closing session discussed the question of a wireless news service. After listening to addresses on behalf of the broadcasting companies, the association adopted resolutions expressing appreciation of the Postmaster-Gen-eral’s decision to allow broadcast news under special license to he published by the Australian press and for the appointment of a committee to consider the suggestions for broadcasting news suitable for the country
press. . ~ The secretary of the association mentioned that the Postmaster-Gen-eral had Intimated that he was prepared to grant the newspaper proprietors a special license for receiving and publishing broadcast news that was not copyrighted. The cost of the license would vary with the amount of matter published. _ ' The committee appointed by tno conference will report later. The announcement was made that arrangements had been completed .or a description of the Melbourne Cup to be broadcast.
