TALLY CHARGES

DISCUSSION AT FOXTON. Mr. Marshall, railway commercial agent, had a visit to Poxtpn yesterday and during the afternoon -inspected the wharf and the Harbour Board'# goodrshed. In the evening the Foxton Harbour Board committee, consisting of Messrs. W. E. Barber arid McMurray, met Mr. Marshall and diecusscd matters in regard to the tallying charges. Mr. Christie, the other member of tho committee, sent aa apology for his non-attendance. * Mr. Marshall considered that - the members'of tho Board had been under a mis-apprehension in regard to the charges in question, and he pointed out that tho Department made no charge for chocking A, B, C, D, and Et goods, but only for E class goods, Tho charge also was 9d per ton, not Is lOd per ton as had been reported. Ho stressed the point that the- Railway Department wished to work amiably with the Harbour Board to the mutual advantage of both. He made several suggestions in regard 6, making arrangements with tho sta-tion-master for the appointment of a tally dork, and after discussing various points, the local committee endorsed Mr. Marshall’s suggestions. Mr. Barber thanked Mr. Marshall for his courtesy in coming to Foxton, and for meeting the local committee on the matters discussed. The meeting, he was sure, would -lead to a bettor feeling between the Board and the Railway Department.
