AORANGI BRIDGE
COST OF TAKING TALLY. MANAWATU COUNTY AGREES At yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council, a letter was received from the Oroua County Council .intimating that it would be necessary to apply lor a commission to determine what amounts neighbouring local bodies would be called on to contribute towards the maintenance of the Aorang’i bridge. Eor this purpose a tally of (he traffic over the bridge was necessary, and it was suggested that the cost of taking tally be borne by the contributory authorities, in the proportion of the existing allocation for maintenance. According to the opinion of the Crown Law office, it would bo necessary for the contributing authorities to come ro an agreement concerning the cost of maintenance of the bridge between the date of revocation of the existing award, and the coming into force of I he new one, and the Oroua County suggested (hat the existing arrangement continue in force, fur (he period' mentioned.
Cr. Fagan considered it was only a fair thing to continue under the exist"
ing arrangement, and to bear a share ol' (he cost of the proposed tally. To disagree would only mean holding the matter up still further. Cr. Reid agreed with this view, and it was resolved to agree to the suggestions of the Oroua County.
