MILITARY DEFAULTER S FOOLISH THREAT. [Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 3. j "Very well. Ton know how it will finish up. I’ll take by own-life,” said I Thomas Earlass, a drill defaulter, when fined 5s and costs on each of two charges of failing to attend drill, by Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon. I Barlass, in the box, said that ho had to work very hard during (hi: clay, and it was not a fair proposiltou that ho should have to attend drill in the evenings. If there were war he would enlist, but there was no war iso ho did not intend to drill. The Magistrate: I will make the
line heavier every time you come before'this court. you are,” said Barlass, in a very aggressive manner. ‘‘l knovf what I will do.” The Magistrate: Don’t be silly. Defendant will bo fined 5a on each charge with costs. “Very well, I’ll take my own life,’' said Barlass, when told to leave the box.
