TOO SOON! Palmerston sports arc mixing commiserations with congratulations to a well-known heavy-weight punter who proved himself the most philosophic of his tribe. Hike many another, he is not averse to trying his iuek by taking a “ticket in Tatis.,’’ and one ho purchased recently in conjunction with another drew a horse —and a good one—-in the Maitland Cup. run on August 5. News came through that the horse, Magoona, a well-bred thing by Magpie—Karloona, had won and the sports were puzzled that no official word had been received of the fact. Magoona, won alright, but. an hour and a-half too soon lo benefit our friends to the extent of live thousand sovs. It was sent out a redhot favourite to win Die first race of the, day and was scratched later in the Cup. The sports will collect a little sum to help them through the spring racing, but that trip to Queensland is postponed for "Mut” and "Scots Wha’ Hae.”
