BOOKMAKERS’ HAT-OFF. [By Electric Cable —Copyright.] [Aust. ! 'and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Monday, 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 28. The “Daily Express’’ says a racing sensation threatened during the weeKend in connection with King of Clues’ win in the Lincolnshire Handicap. Dawson ,thc trainer of Zionist, which ran second, posted an objection to the winner, on the ground that a partnership in the horse between Messrs. Bellcrby and S. Owden was not disclosed. As it is settling day on Monday, the objection was a bombsncii, affecting bets all the world over totalling two million sterling. Many bookmakers who had already paid on the King of Clubs would be obliged also to pay over on Zionist, whil 0 the popular double on Zionist and Jack Horner, |th o winner of the Grand National, became operative. Fortunately, late on Sunday, Dawson cancelled his objection. OSTRICH RACING. NEW SPORT FOR ADELAIDE. (Received Monday, 8 p.m.) ADELAIDE, March 29. Tho C.J.C. Great Easter Handicap candidate Civility, in charge of her trainer, F. Lind, was entrained from Wanganui yesterday and continues her journey to tho South Island this morning. Civility has been putting up re-cord-breaking gallops on the Wanganui track, and there arc those who will not see her beaten.

Aboard tho Napier mail yesterday tho Woodviilo trainer, T. Lloyd, with tho racehorses Clandhu and Piuthair, were journeying south. Mr. McKenzie’s horses will bo ridden in their southern engagements by the local apprentice, T. Green.

Stuart Waddell passed through Palmerston North on his way to Christchurch yesterday with his old favourite, Gold Light, and the Great Easter Handicap candidate, Father O’Flynn. As usual, F. Waddell will fide Gold Light, but as yet, no rider has been secured for Father O’Flynn.

Commendation and Many Colours were shipped south yesterday to fulfil their engagements at the C.J.C. meeting. Both looked “in the pink,” and the racing of Many Colours at Danncvirke need not be taken as too close an indication of what lie is likely to do at Rlccarton.

In view of the great counter-attrac-tions elsewhere, acceptances for the Fellding Easter meeting can only be regarded as excellent, and the open events particularly lose nothing In point of class.

Spoony has incurred a penalty of two lbs. (to 7.9) for the President Handicap at the A.R.C. meeting by his win at Franklin.

Mr. McManemin has decided not to ro-handicap King Merv for the Easter Handicap.

Set Sail will be ridden in the Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton by C. Emerson. The Southern mare has plenty of admirers.

It is uncertain where Kilbronsyth will go at Easter, but probably ho will be at Ellerslie for the Easter Handicap, in which he will be ridden by H. Wiggins. The late decision is due to some doubt as to how he will gallop the reverse way at Auckland, as he has not been going over-kindly in his work tho right-handed way at Levin.

S. Reid will have his team well distributed at Easter time. Grand Knight, Note, Spodc, and Minotus go to Riccarton, Nadarino goes to Ta.uherenikau, and Indian Sag e to Feeding, says “Vedette,” but tho lastnamed is not an acceptor for the first day there.

The accident at th e turn at Hororata on Saturday when Lady Clarenceux fell evidently made a bad impression on the other riders, and according to an eye-witness none of the jockeys took any risks in subsequent races. The turn is a bad one, one of the worst in the Dominion. F. E. Jones, the rider of Lady Clarenceux was injured severely enough to prevent his riding again during the day, but he should be fit again for tho C.J.C. Meeting at Riccarton.

It is stated that Mr. J. S. Barrett was recently again approached asking him to put a price on Count Cavour. The commissioner operating this time hailed from Hawke’s Bay, and it is understood he was acting on behalf of an Australian buyer. Mr. Barrett once again demonstrated that the jingle of the money bags could not induce him to part with tho Solferino gelding, and the answer returned was that the chestnut was not for sale. Having displayed tho courageous spirit in sticking to his horse, it will be highly pleasing as time wears on to chronicle that “The Count” has added still further in an important degree to the already-attractive record down to his credit.

The Dunedin sportsman Mr. A. S. Cambridge evidently regards his Eng-lish-bred horse Rosenor as valuable property, for when recently asked to put a price on him he is credited with naming £3OOO as tho sum that would be required. Rosenor is a four-year-old by Grosvenor from the Ladas mare (Rosey, and, as he is a stallion, that, of course, has to be taken into account in assessing his value, for he lean boast of a high-class pedigree. So far he has only contested three races and ho has one win to his cre- , Git.
