WEDNESDAY FOOTBALL

MOVEMENT FOR REVIVAL. If the large crowd of young men who gathered at the Rosy Lecture Hall last evening is any criterion, then the suggestion that Wednesday Rugby football be again revived in Palmerston North is going to be enthusiastically received. The chairman of the meeting was Mr. D. G. Trash, who explained that several players had spoken to him about playing on Wednesdays. . He had immediately placed the matter before Mr. W. Boon who had suggested calling a meeting. Unfortunately, Mr. Boon was unable to be present but another meeting would be called shortly and on .that occasion Mr. Boon stated he would mak e a point of being present. The speaker pointed out that there had been several attempts to have Rugby played on Wednesdays, the most recent being only two seasons ago, but after what appeared to have been a fairly successful trial, the matter was allowed to drop the following year. A shield had been promised provided that four full teams were placed on the field and to do that at least 80 players would be required. He trusted that those present would do their best to bring along extra players. Several members of previous teams).

voiced their approval of renewing the activities and impressed upon new players the necessity of always attending the games and taking the competition seriously. After discussion it was decided to appoint Messrs. W. Lundy, F. H. MeCellan, F. Miles and the chairman to approach Mr. Boon with the view of having the competition started as early as possible. A suggestion that the town he divided into four sections and that (he players residing in each section form a team, was received favourably but was held over pending farther information regarding the formation of clubs. A list of possible players was made out and it was ascertained that the inumber totalled 52.
