SOCIAL EVENTS
ST. PAT’S. CARNIVAL CONCLUDED After three days’ brilliant success, both financially and socially, St. Patrick’s Church carnival and bazaar was brought to a finish last evening. The closing function was a brilliant one. a children’s fancy dress ball, followed by a dance for the older people t attracting some three hundred juveniles and one hundred and fifty adults. Special decorations had been erected and the multi-coloured costumes of the children made a dazzling spectacle. The judges were Mesdames Paton and T. J. Rodgers. Mrs. A. Palmer arranged the grand march, from which the following children were, selected; Girl, over nine years: Patricia Harman (Victoria costume). Girl, under nine: Evelyn Zaloum (cigarette girl). Boy: Eric Greedy (Peter Pan). Specials; Betty Muir (Chinese lady), Joan Richards (buttercup) and Jean Pinkerton (rosebuds). Throughout th e evening the Tuncfion was under the control of Mr. S. Maree. SCOTTISH INGLESIDE. Some hundred or so lasses end laddies of all ages gathered in the Orange Hall last evening to make the first ingleside of the season an undoubted success. No pains were spared with regard to the decoration of the hall and with a delightful musical programme throughout, were conducted many Scottish dances. Tlie following gave musical i)tems: Mrs. Benson singing ''Ye Banks and Braes” Mrs. Hutchison rendering auld Scotch songs, Miss Croft ’’Annie Laurie" accompanied by Miss C. MCHaffie who also played a supper •‘extra.’’ Miss Flora McKenzie sang -When the Kye Come Hame,” and Messrs. White and McKenzie gave leoititions. After supper, the gathering was continued until midnight, when it concluded by ail joining in with ”Auld hang Syne.”
