BIG IMPROVEMENT IN WOOL PRICES
Market Buoyant and Competition Animated BEST SALE OF THE CHRISTCHURCH SERIES [Per Press Association.] CHUISTCHLKCH. Last Night. Prices at the fourth wool sale of the season, at Christchurch, showed considerable improvement. The market was buoyant and competition animated, malting the sale th e best of the series. Continental buyers were active throughout and bought heavily. Bradford also was active, hut prices were too high for local mills and they were unable to operate to any great extent. The entry was the product of latt shearing in the back country and many lots suffered in brightness, the wool being sandy and heavy. Wool-scouring firms competed keenly throughout for fell-mongering lots. Out of 14,481 bales only 228 welf passed, and of this number 129 bales v. ere in the previous catalogue, mostly .Merino. Merino prices increased by lid to 2d, Corriedale improved Id to lid, crossbreds were up Id to lid on February figures, and super hulfbreds sold to Id better. In other grades hulfbreds increased slightly more and eoarsh halfbreds improved n, fraction. A more marked advance took place iu threequarter-bred, which was Id better than February.
