It is stated that various parts of the motor-lorry smashed at the Paekakafiki crossing, when four people lost their lives, have boon stolen.

Owing to the continuance of dry weather the Sydney metropolitan water supply has failed to meet the demand this summer. Supply for garden purposes is strictly prohibited, and several public baths had their supply cut off and were forced to close. More stingent restrictions arc forecasted.

On account of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School losing one of its most prominent members. E. Hollier, it will not challenge the present holders of the Hoathcote Williams cricket challenge shield (Auckland Grammar) this year. This shield is for competition between the secondary schools of New Zealand.

It is many years since an election for the Licensing Committee was held in Palmerston North. It is also interesting to note that the Borough has to stand the cost of these elections, which in the present case will run into about £IOO. The borough, on th 0 other hand, receives all the fees tor licenses, which amount to £6BO per annum, made up of 15 hotels at £4O each and 4 wholesale licenses at £2O each'.

The "Daily SkeVh” says that in response t,o the public demand to eliminate the middlemen’s profits, tile British Government has decided to emulate the Dominions and institute an extensive system of cash-on-do-livery parcel-post, embracing agricultural produce and bringing the farmyard to the doorstep. The postal people will charge probably 3d a parcel, collecting the cash. and handing if, over to the farmer.
