WEIGHT OF PIGS
METHOD OF UAJLOULATING. The simplest way to ascertain the approximate weight, of a pig from measurement is just to take its girth behind the forelegs in inches. A pig 3Gin. in girth, if of medium length and well fed, should give a dressed carcase weight of Gst.—that is 841 b. Practically for cv c ry inch over 3G in girth a stone (14ID) will bo added. A pig 40in. in girth should give a carcase weight of lost (1401 b)., A lengthy pig, however, (that is also prime fat will give rather heavier carcase weight than lost, if it is 40in. in girth. The rule holds best for pigs 6st. to Sst. or 9st„ that make tidy porkers or small baconers.
