A YOUTH’S DOWNFALL

Due io Flappers' Wiles, says Counsel TAXI-CAB RIDES FOR LADY FRIENDS The case of a youth, whose lapse from tho straight path was attributed to the wiles of the model'll flapper, came before Hr _H. A, young. S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court, Christchurch, last week. The youth, Who was seventeen years of age, was- charged with having stolen from his employers. Mason, Struthers, Ltd., cheques (for £2l 7s 3d and £2l 13s. He was also charged with having stolen postal notes for £1 4s, the property of Mason, Struthers, Ltd. On behalf of accused, who was represented by Mr Hanna, it was stated that ho had lost both his parents early in life, Therefore there had, been a lack.,of parental control 1 . A considerable portion of the stolen money had been spent on taxi-cab rides for lady friends, taking them, to the pictures and buying them expensive boxes of chocolates. His downfall -was probably due to the glamour of tho modern flapper. , The, Magistrate:' He has started pretty young in -life. > The probation-- officer (the Rev.’ F. He asked that his name should not he published. ■ Addressing accused, the Magistrate stressed the seriousness Of his, offence. An order was made that accused’s name should not he published. He was ordered to refund the Stolen money In Instalments fixed by the prdbation officer.
