A. & P. SHOW AT MARION

ATTENDANCE AND - ENTRIES RECORDS Thirteenth Fixture Outstanding Success OPENED BY MINISTER 01' LANDS Increased entries and a record attendance were the outstanding features of the 13 th annual show of the Marton A. and P. Association hold at Marton Junction yesterday demonstrating that this fixture is growing In popularity. Excellent weather conditions prevailed. The show was» officially opened by th e Minister of Lands (Hon. *A. 1). McLeod), who congratulated the Association on the excellence of the exhibits and the splendid weather conditions prevailing. He remarked that at all times It gave him pleasure to V meet then men on th e land who, after all, "were the backbone of the countrry. As regards the administration of the Land Department, he may have done a little to better conditions for the farmers but he realised there was yet a great deal to do. The Rangitlkei district was more fortunate than the Wairatapa had been this season and it did one’s eyes good to look out across the green pastures of Marton and beautiful adjacent undulating country. In the districts surrounding Marton, Pending and Palmerston North there was a block of country that could not be beaten as grazing land. Those behind ths pastoral movement were doing useful and good service for the country. They were educating the farmer to produce the best and when that was being done there need be no fearjfor the future of the Dominion. The Minister denied that ho was a man given to making pessimistic statements. His habit was to tell the truth and his advice to farmers was to cut their suits according to their cloth if they wished to ensure not being overtaken by another toad period. Complimentary remarks upon the good work; that the Minister had accomplished as head of the Lands Department were passed by the President of the Association. Mr. H. S. C. Mof risen, Mr. Stuart, a member? of the executive, and . Mr. Glenn, M.K
