The American athletes, Jackson V Scholz,, and Lloyd Hahn, made their first public appearance in New Zealand on Saturday, when they competed at the Hamilton Athletic Club’s sport*. Tho weather waa fine, the attendance larg» and the track in good order. In the 220 yards’ sprint, Scholz ran a splendid race. The 100 yards was an unsatisfactory rac P and here Scholz was not so successful, owing to a misunderstanding at the start. Tho distance man, Hahn, gave a splendid performance in the 440 and 880 yards. Neither of them, however, Is in racing trim after their journey, and they do not expect to reach the top of their form for a few weeks. The principal results were;— 880yds. handicap; W. Savldan (45yds.), 1; L. Hahn (scr.), 2; E. Darlington (75yds.), 3. Time, 1.57. Hahn was close up after the first round, but Savldan increased his pace and won by 10yds. 100yds. handicap: O. Morgan (6yds.), 1, C. Northmore (Byds.), 2; J. V. Scholz (scr.), 3. Time, 10 l-ssecs. Tho start in which Scholz ‘participated was most unsatisfactory. The American, thinking it was a false start, was left at the post with an almost impossible start and was unplaced. He gave an exhibition performance la the final at the request of the committee.
